The Doors – Self Titled

The Doors’ self-titled LP could very easily be the greatest debut in music history

Not only did they come out of the gate with a fully realized sound but managed to craft a genre-defining masterpiece that transcends the confines of its time sounding incredible almost 60 years later

The Doors took the psychedelic rock sound and ran with it to unexplored depths. Their blend of rock, blues, and psychedelic sounds fully represents the spirit of innovation of the 60s psychedelic movement while driving it to the highest of highs through bold instrumental, vocal, and artistic experimentation. Jim Morrison’s charisma shines through every track while Ray Manzarek’s organ adds a tone of mystery, doubling down on the psychedelic aspect and giving the band an extremely distinct sound. Recorded over 6 days the record has a very raw, almost live feel while being a relentless, dynamic exhibition of their brilliance from top to bottom.

The Doors’ Self Titled is nothing short of a monumental piece of music that not only defined an era but still continues to inspire creativity and artistry. Morrison’s epitaph incription written by none other than Paul McCartney maybe describes him best. The ancient Greek phrase “Κατά τον δαίμονα εαυτού” meaning true to his own spirit. Rest in peace Jim Morrison. His energy and spirit will continue to live on through his artistic genius and the undeniable mark he left on the world.

Key Songs : Light My Fire, End Of The Night, Break On Through
